HOW TO CHECK YOUR OIL
September 15 2022 - Mazda of Wesley Chapel

Your Mazda vehicle needs premium service to work its best. However, it’s just as important to monitor things between visits, and one of the most important is one of the easiest: check your oil. Remember, if there are issues, you can stop by our service center and use a Mazda oil change coupon to help cover the bill.

Check the Oil on Your MAZDA Vehicle.

Let’s break this down step-by-step.

  • Get a clean rag or paper towel; you’ll need it later. We also suggest wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting stained in case something drips or splatters.
  • Find a level place to park to ensure an accurate reading.
  • Remember, safety first; shut the engine off and let the car cool down before checking your oil.
  • Use the hood release on the driver’s side of the cabin to pop the hood. If it’s still latched, run your fingers underneath your hood and look for the latch to open it up.
  • Now it’s time to locate the dipstick; it is located toward the left-hand side of the engine, and has a rounded top.
  • Found it? Now lift it out, wipe it down, and re-insert it.
  • Pull it back out and examine both sides for your oil level.
  • Don’t just check the amount of oil. Its condition matters, too, and if it’s a dark color — closer to coffee than amber — it’s time for an oil change.

If you notice that your oil is low, add more and check again in 14 to 30 days. If it’s low again, you should visit us to see if there’s a leak or if your engine is burning oil.

Remember that changing your oil is best done at a Mazda service center to ensure proper disposal, OEM parts (like oil filters), and the correct oil formulation. You’ll find it all at Mazda of Welsey Chapel, so stop by today!
